The Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Major General Dangana Allu, has called on Nigerians to collectively work towards promoting peace and harmony across the country.
Major General Allu made the call at the Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State, during the joint inauguration of leadership and peace management courses for Taraba State Government officials.
Represented by the Deputy Commandant of the Centre, Brigadier General Gabriel Esho, the Commandant described Nigeria as a country with a volatile and complex security environment, stressing the need for sustained investment in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
He said strengthening peacebuilding efforts would help create a safer and more stable society where citizens can live and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Major General Allu also urged the participants of the five-day training to uphold dignity, respect and love in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu, for creating an enabling environment for the Centre to carry out its mandate.
The Commandant also commended Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for the strategic partnership with the Centre and his commitment to strengthening leadership and peacebuilding capacity among government officials.
The participants are undergoing training in leadership development, basic human rights, countering violent extremism and gender mainstreaming.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Agbu Kefas, Dr. Jeji Williams, was among dignitaries present at the opening ceremony.
