2027 Elections: INEC Voter Register Nears 100 Million

The number of registered voters in Nigeria is expected to approach the 100 million mark ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues preparations for the polls.

The commission recently recorded 10,772,421 new registrants through the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The latest figures are expected to significantly increase the size of the existing voter register, which had already surpassed 93 million registered voters.

However, INEC is expected to conduct further verification and clean-up of the register before releasing the final figure for the 2027 elections.

The commission is deploying its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to identify and remove multiple registrations and other irregularities that could compromise the credibility of the voter register.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, has also highlighted the commission's efforts to improve the registration process and address challenges surrounding the collection and distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

With the number of registered voters expected to cross the 100 million threshold, the 2027 general elections are shaping up to be one of the largest electoral exercises in Nigeria's history.

INEC is also preparing for the logistical demands of the elections, including the deployment of electoral personnel and resources across the country's polling units.

The commission has projected the need for about 1.4 million ad-hoc personnel to support the conduct of the elections across more than 176,000 polling units nationwide.

The final voter register, according to INEC's process, will provide a clearer picture of the number of Nigerians eligible to participate in the 2027 elections.

KAMBU COMMUNITY COMMENDED FOR CULTURAL PRESERVATION AND UNITY

The Kambu Cultural Development Association has been commended for its commitment to preserving the culture, language and unity of the Kambu people.

The commendation was made by Hon. Bashiru Bakari Jatau, who is aspiring to represent Nguroje Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly under the Accord Party, during a visit to the association's monthly meeting held at the Kambu Community Family House in Magami, Jalingo.

Hon. Bashiru Bakari Jatau praised members of the community for their commitment to preserving their cultural values and promoting peaceful coexistence.

He stressed the importance of unity among the Kambu people and encouraged members of the community to participate actively in the forthcoming elections.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the Kambu Cultural Development Association, Mr. Richard Genesis Nfor, commended the elders, women and youths for their contributions to the growth and progress of the association.

He also acknowledged the efforts of teachers who have taken it upon themselves to train children in the Kambu language, describing the initiative as important to preserving the community's cultural heritage for future generations.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, Pa. Ta Nformi Christopher Tanko appreciated the leadership of the association for its efforts towards promoting unity and cultural values among the people.

He also thanked Hon. Bashiru Bakari Jatau for identifying with the Kambu community and supporting its activities.

Another community member, Hon. Oliver Mayuka, commended Hon. Bashiru Bakari Jatau for his decision to seek public office, describing political participation as an opportunity to contribute to the development of Nguroje, Sardauna Local Government Area and Taraba State.

Hon. Mayuka prayed for God's guidance and success for Hon. Bashiru Bakari Jatau in his ambition to represent Nguroje Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly.

Also speaking, Ta Fai Donatus Ndifufi called for peace and understanding among the sons and daughters of Sardauna Local Government Area as the people approach the 2027 elections.

He urged residents to maintain peaceful relationships, respect one another and avoid actions capable of creating division within the community.

The meeting ended with renewed calls for unity, cultural preservation, peaceful coexistence and active participation in community development.

New Life for All Nigerians Holds Sensitisation Meeting in Taraba

The President of New Life for All Nigerians, Rev. Dr. Moses Terkaa Chooji, has called on members of the organisation in Taraba State to remain committed to its objectives and support efforts aimed at promoting national development.

Rev. Dr. Chooji made the call at the CAN Secretariat in Jalingo, during a sensitisation meeting with members of the organisation’s Taraba State chapter.

He said the engagement was part of a nationwide sensitisation exercise, adding that a similar programme had already been conducted in Adamawa State, where members, according to him, had recorded significant progress towards achieving their targets.

The national president also acknowledged the commitment and support of members across the states, stressing the need for unity and collective efforts in advancing the organisation’s objectives.

He further expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging Nigerians to give the administration the necessary support and opportunity to succeed.

Some members who spoke during the meeting commended Rev. Dr. Chooji for what they described as his tireless efforts in advancing the organisation. They also pledged their continued support and called for greater unity among members.

The sensitisation meeting brought together members of New Life for All Nigerians from different parts of Taraba State.

Iyaloja General Movement Coordinator Holds Maiden Meeting in Jalingo

The newly appointed State Coordinator of the Iyaloja General Movement for Renewed Hope Alliance in Taraba State, Mrs. Amina Victoria Musa, has held her maiden meeting with women across the state.

The meeting, held at the CAN Secretariat, Jalingo, provided an opportunity for the new coordinator to engage with women and outline her vision for the movement.

Mrs. Musa called on women to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing the need for sustained grassroots mobilisation and unity.

She urged women to return to their respective wards and strengthen their relationships with people at the grassroots, describing strong community engagement as key to building a formidable political structure.

The State Coordinator also encouraged women to actively participate in the forthcoming elections and mobilise others to exercise their civic responsibilities.

Mrs. Musa expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in her through the appointment, promising to work with dedication and ensure that every woman is carried along in the activities of the movement.

CONVOCATION: Nursing Is a Calling to Humanity, TSU HOD Tells Graduates

The Head of the Department of Nursing Sciences, Taraba State University, Jalingo, Dr Kilor Nfor, has charged newly qualified nurses and midwives to approach their profession with dedication, compassion and a strong sense of responsibility.

Dr Nfor gave the charge following the combined convocation ceremony of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, where hundreds of graduates were formally admitted into the nursing and midwifery profession.

He described nursing as more than a means of livelihood, stressing that it is a calling centred on preserving human life and providing compassionate care to patients.

The university don urged the graduates to maintain professionalism and exercise caution in their dealings with patients, noting that the attitude of healthcare workers can have a significant impact on patients’ recovery and experience in health facilities.

Dr Nfor also emphasised the importance of teamwork, urging the new professionals to maintain cordial relationships with doctors, patients, relatives and other healthcare workers to ensure effective healthcare delivery.

He commended the graduates for their resilience and commitment to their studies, encouraging them to embrace continuous learning and uphold the ethical standards of the profession.

The former Provost of the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery also commended Governor Agbu Kefas for investments in the education sector, particularly the free education policy, reduction in tuition fees and upgrading of infrastructure at the college.

He said the interventions would contribute significantly to human capital development and strengthen the institution’s capacity to produce qualified nurses and midwives for the state’s healthcare system.

Dr Nfor congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold the reputation of their institution through professionalism, discipline, compassion and competence wherever they find themselves.

TARABA APC CHAIRMAN COMMISSIONS KILA-YANG MARKET SHADE

The Taraba State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, has commissioned the Kila-Yang Open Market Shade in Gembu Constituency.

The project, named after Governor Agbu Kefas, was initiated by the member representing Gembu Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulazeez Suleiman Titong.

The commissioning followed the Chairman’s attendance at the Maulud celebration in Njawai Community.

Receiving the APC Chairman, Hon. Titong said the project was his personal initiative to support his constituents and provide a better environment for business activities.

Alhaji Bawa congratulated the lawmaker, commending him for the project and other initiatives in the constituency. He urged him to sustain his efforts in providing projects that directly benefit the people.

The APC Chairman also commended Governor Agbu Kefas for what he described as his efforts to improve various sectors of the state.

He called on residents of Gembu Constituency and other Tarabans to support the APC at all levels.

Don’t pray for your wife to feed you — Pete Edochie

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has advised married men not to pray for a situation where they become dependent on their wives for food and other basic needs.

Edochie said relying on one’s wife financially could expose a man to ridicule, emotional distress and humiliation, stressing the importance of men taking their responsibilities as providers seriously.

The actor made the remarks while featuring on Isbae U’s interview platform, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Drawing from his nearly six decades of marriage experience, Edochie said he had been married for 57 years and was speaking from personal experience.

He warned that if circumstances forced a man to depend on his wife for food for several days, the situation could become emotionally difficult because of the ridicule he might face.

Edochie’s comments centred on traditional expectations of men as providers within the family and the need for married men to remain financially responsible.

2027: NDC DISMISSES CLAIMS IT LACKS GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES IN 12 STATES

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has dismissed reports that it does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party described the reports as false and politically motivated, insisting that it has duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold in 2027.

The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, made the position known in a statement, saying the party is fully prepared for the elections and has structures, candidates and supporters across the country.

To counter the reports, the party released names of its governorship candidates in the 12 states mentioned.

They include Senator Kabiru Marafa in Zamfara State; retired Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim in Borno; Hon. John Odey in Cross River; Babanta Michael Okon in Akwa Ibom; Nwofe Boniface in Ebonyi; and Yakubu Solomon Ndam in Plateau State.

Others are Ilu-Barde Aliyu in Katsina; Alhaji Umar Usman Besse in Kebbi; Jonga Yahaya Gabakau in Yobe; Dutse Aminu Sani in Jigawa; Professor Yahaya Mohammed Sani in Taraba; and Abdu Sidi Bomi in Niger State.

The party urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers and other content creators to verify information before publishing reports concerning its activities.

The NDC said it remains committed to issue-based politics and will not be distracted by what it described as sponsored falsehoods ahead of the 2027 elections.

It also presented itself as an alternative to the existing political establishment, citing security, employment and accountability among the issues it intends to prioritise if elected.

FR. MUKE CALLS FOR FORGIVENESS, RECONCILIATION AND PEACE

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Taraba State on Christian Religion Matters, Very Rev. Fr. Sunday Patrick Muke, has called on Christians to embrace forgiveness, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

In a Sunday message, Fr. Muke reflected on the Gospel of Matthew 18:15–20, where Jesus teaches his followers to address wrongs with love and humility and seek reconciliation rather than conflict.

He urged Christians to choose dialogue over bitterness, forgiveness over resentment and unity over division.

According to him, Christians should cultivate peace in their families and communities, stressing that Christ is present when people come together in love and agreement.

Fr. Muke prayed for wisdom and humility among Christians to forgive and correct one another in love.

He also prayed for lasting peace, unity and progress in families, communities and Taraba State.

The Special Adviser wished Christians a happy Sunday and called for continued commitment to peaceful coexistence.

NIGERIA POLICE ACADEMY COMMANDANT VISITS ZONE ONE, KANO POLICE COMMAND

The Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Auwal Musa Muhammad, has paid his first official visit to the Zone One Police Headquarters and the Kano State Police Command since assuming office.

AIG Auwal Musa Muhammad, who is the 25th Commandant of the Academy, began the visit at the Zone One Headquarters, where he was received by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, AIG Ahmed Garba.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both officers to discuss security matters and ways of strengthening cooperation between the zone and the Police Academy. AIG Ahmed Garba assured the Academy of the zone’s continued support and readiness to collaborate on security operations.

The Academy Commandant and the Zone One AIG also stressed the need for sustained cooperation to improve security within the region.

The delegation later proceeded to the Kano State Police Command Headquarters, where the Commandant met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

CP Bakori assured the Commandant of the command’s commitment to the safety and security of the Nigeria Police Academy and pledged continued cooperation between the Kano State Police Command and the Academy.

Speaking after the visits, AIG Auwal Musa Muhammad thanked both police formations for their support and expressed the Academy’s commitment to strengthening the existing relationship.

The visit was the Commandant’s first official tour of the Zone One Police Headquarters and the Kano State Police Command since taking over as head of the Nigeria Police Academy.

WIC WARNS POLITICIANS AGAINST THREATS TO IGBOS OVER OBI

The World Igbo Congress has warned politicians and their supporters against threatening, intimidating or harassing Igbo people over their political choices, particularly in connection with the political activities of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The organisation said political disagreements should not be allowed to degenerate into threats against the lives and property of Igbo people as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

The warning was issued by the Vice-Chairman of the World Igbo Congress, Basil Onwukwe, during an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica.

Onwukwe said the organisation remained non-partisan but would not remain silent if Igbo people were threatened because of their political affiliations or choices.

He said the WIC had been monitoring political developments and would respond appropriately to any situation in which threats against Igbo people could endanger their lives or property.

The WIC official also cautioned politicians and their supporters against allowing political differences to fuel hatred, intimidation or violence.

According to him, the organisation's previous silence over alleged threats linked to Peter Obi should not be interpreted as ignorance or indifference.

Onwukwe further assured Igbos living across Nigeria that the organisation was committed to protecting their interests, regardless of their political affiliations.

Speaking ahead of the WIC convention in Austin, Texas, he disclosed that the organisation was strengthening its networks to support Igbo people living and doing business around the world.

He also revealed plans by the group to establish an Igbo Credit Union in the United States, alongside efforts to develop a Biafra Cenotaph and Monumental Park, an initiative proposed at an earlier WIC convention in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The WIC urged politicians to pursue their ambitions peacefully and respect the political choices of citizens without resorting to threats or intimidation.

JAMB Releases 2026 UTME Results for Underage Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of candidates who were below the prescribed admission age when they sat for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The board said the results are now available for candidates, parents and guardians to view, but stressed that the release does not automatically make the affected candidates eligible for admission into tertiary institutions.

JAMB’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Fabian Benjamin, explained that an underage candidate is any applicant who will be below 16 years old by September 30, 2026.

According to the board, the results were released mainly to enable candidates and their parents or guardians to know their performance in the examination.

However, JAMB said candidates below the prescribed age would only be considered for exceptional admission if they meet the requirements set by the board and their chosen institutions.

For exceptional admission, candidates must score at least 320 in the UTME and obtain a minimum of 80 per cent in relevant Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination subjects, where applicable. They must also satisfy their chosen institution’s Post-UTME requirements and pass a final assessment conducted by experts.

JAMB said the assessment process is still ongoing, with some verification stages yet to be completed.

Candidates awaiting their National Examinations Council results will also be allowed to submit them for verification. The board said the date for the final assessment would be announced after the release of the NECO results.

JAMB further cautioned candidates, parents and guardians against individuals who may attempt to exploit the process by promising admission outside the approved procedure.

The board reiterated that sitting for the UTME and obtaining a result does not guarantee admission, particularly for candidates who have not attained the prescribed admission age.

TARABA APC CHAIRMAN ATTENDS MAULUD CELEBRATION IN NJAWAI

The Taraba State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, has attended the annual Maulud celebration in Njawai Community, Mayo Ndaga, Sardauna Local Government Area.

Alhaji Bawa was accompanied by the member representing Gembu Constituency, Hon. Mbondua Kuma, political appointees to the Taraba State Government, members of state boards, agencies and commissions, APC executives from Sardauna Local Government Area and party supporters.

The celebration brought together Muslim faithful from within and outside Nigeria to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad, with Islamic scholars offering teachings on his life, character and teachings.

The Khalifa of Njawai, Sheikh Modi Njawai, who received the APC Chairman and his entourage, appreciated Alhaji Bawa for consistently attending the annual celebration despite his busy schedule.

He also commended the Chairman for what he described as his support and contributions to the development of Njawai Community, Sardauna Local Government Area and Taraba State.

Addressing the gathering, Alhaji Bawa urged Muslims to emulate the peaceful, tolerant and simple lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad.

He also called on the people of Sardauna and Taraba State to support government policies and programmes, while stressing the importance of peace and unity to the development of the state.

The APC Chairman wished the Muslim faithful a successful celebration and safe journeys back to their respective destinations.

As part of the event, Alhaji Bawa presented motorcycles and cash gifts to individuals recognised for their contributions to Islamic scholarship.
